SHILLONG: The NPP-led MDA government has intervened and resolved the crisis in KHADC and a reconciliation meeting in this regard was held at the official residence of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday night.
The six MDCs who withdrew support to the United Democratic Party (UDA) in the KHADC have reconsidered their decision and are back with the UDA following the meeting.
Three Executive Members (EMs), NPP MDCs Mitchell Wankhar, Victor Ranee and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Macdalyn Mawlong had submitted their resignation on April 30.
Besides the EMs, chairpersons of the advisory committees, independent MDCs Latiplang Kharkongor and Lambor Malngiang and NPP MDC Gigur Myrthong also tendered their resignation on the same day.
With this development, the EC led by UDP-NPP coalition was reduced to a minority with just 13 members in the House of 29.
The meeting at the residence of chief minister was attended by political bigwigs such as Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Cabinet Minister Samlin Malngiang and MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar.
“Our meeting this evening is fruitful. All the confusions erupted over the past few days were sorted out. Our friends who tendered their resignation and withdrew their support to UDA have reconsidered their decision by withdrawing their resignation today,” KHADC CEM Teinwell Dkhar said.
With the KHADC EC being in power for two months, it drew flak from several quarters, Dkhar said and added that the MDCs will work as a team and forget what has happened.
He added that KHADC will open a new chapter.
Chairman of People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), Lambor Malngiang said miscommunications take place in a big family. “As a team we have come together to sort out the matter,” he said.
He informed the coordination committee of the PDA and RDA has been formed to ensure that the EC runs smoothly and to address the grievances pertaining to the Council and other issues.
The committee comprises CEM as the chairman, Deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem as secretary and the members are Lambor Malngiang, PN Syiem, Titosstarwell Chyne, Gigur Myrthong, Paul Lyngdoh and Martle Mukhim.
Curiously, the CEM said there was no discussion on Rs 52 crore sanctioned by the Centre and the matter will be dealt in the coordination committee.
According to media reports, there was demand from the MDCs to raise the allotment of Rs 50 lakh per MDC to Rs 1.5 crore.
With the KHADC getting social media attention and trolled for the tussle over funds, Malngiang said, “Whatever has happened is for the good and we have to detect the loopholes so that the EC will not see any trouble.”
The MDCs who tendered their resignation had asserted that collective responsibility besides collective decision was absent in the UDA which prompted them to withdraw support.
Earlier, the MDCs had a separate meeting with Tynsong at his office chamber.
