Keep away from social media, advise toppers

SHILLONG: Keep social media at bay during examinations and don’t be a bookworm, but also devote time to recreational activities.
That’s the mantra toppers in the HSSLC examination, results of which were announced by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) on Wednesday, followed.
Debjanee Bhattacharee of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, who topped the list in Science, said that she studied throughout the year and so there was not much pressure just before the examinations.
Stating that she never indulged in social media, she advised students to keep away from it while preparing for examinations.
She also said that in her free time, she would listen to music and do what she liked as recreational activities help relax the mind.
Debjanee, who recently sat for the NEET examination, said that if she cannot make the cut, she will take up some B.Sc course.
Bhanudaya Upadhaya from BBS College, who secured first position in the Commerce stream, said that he used to get up early in the morning and study for three hours and after returning from college would study for another 3-4 hours.

“My position was clear: when I study I don’t move anywhere,” he added.
His mantra for success: don’t stop trying even if you fail and keep faith in yourself and God. He also believes that social media such as Facebook and Whatsapp can distract students from concentrating and he stopped using social media six months before the exams.
“Now I am planning to do B.Com and then pursue Chartered Accountancy,” he said.
The second rank-holder of Science stream, Komal Mittal, from from St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School was jubilant over her success and dedicated it to God, her parents and school teachers.
She also said that she studied two-three hours daily apart from her school and tuition classes.
Jayashree Bhattacharjee, again an Anthonian who secured third position in Science, said that she could have done better but she is happy with the position which she has secured and the credit for her success goes to her school. “I want to pursue Mathematics,” she added.
Bulbul Das, who secured second position in Commerce from St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School urged students to believe in their calibre and potential and try to achieve their goals even if they fail.
“I study 10-12 hours a day and give my brain a rest as I don’t prefer being a bookworm,” she said while adding that social media did help her though she did not waste much time on it.
She plans to pursue chartered accountancy.
Damewanshwa Bittu Rymbai, who stood third in Commerce, said he followed a routine while preparing for his examinations and gave equal time to all subjects.
Rymbai now wants to pursue B.Com and appear for competitive exams in the future.
