Police gear up vigil in Balakhawa village on Meghalaya -Assam boundary

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police have beefed up security  in Balakhawa village along the inter-state boundary with Assam following the recent assault on the secretary of the Hima Nongspung.

Ri Bhoi SP, C Syrti said that police personnel had been deployed in the village to instill peace and confidence in the area

A group of people last week allegedly vandalised the residence of Michael Warjri, secretary of Hima Nongspung at Balakhawa village in Ri Bhoi . As per reports, the house was attacked due to Warjri’s opposition to the ongoing construction of a PMGSY road at Balakhawa village by the Assam government

Later, Michael Warjri was arrested by Assam Police and a case has been registered against him.

The pressure groups here in Meghalaya wants that the case should be forwarded to Nongpoh Police station

Meanwhile, Syrti also informed that the he has requested the Deputy Commissioner of the district to constitute peace committees in the area to maintain peace and tranquillity in the areas.
