FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy tour
France: FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy is back in the host country and will begin its France tour on May 14 following its journey in each of the 24 participating sides in the 2019 edition, FIFA announced on Friday. The tour will start in Paris, where the opening match between France and South Korea will be played on June 7, and conclude in Lyon, the venue for the final on July 7. Fans throughout France have the opportunity to get close to the trophy. two weeks in May, the trophy will visit a number of locations including stadiums, local schools and city councils, and encounter guests including several FIFA legends. SNCF, a national supporter of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 and a market leader in transportation, will showcase the trophy on its trains as it is transported between cities. (UNI)
Indian shooter records perfect 50 in ISSF World Cup
New Delhi: Starting the campaign on a great note, India’s Sheeraz Sheikh on Friday recorded a perfect 50 out of 50 in the Men’s skeet competition at the third International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun Stage 2 in Changwon, Korea. Sheeraz Sheikh jointly topped the field of 84 shotgun shooters along with three other shooters from from Kuwait, Argentina and Norway. Another Indian shooter Mairaj Ahmad Khan shot 49 and stayed at seventh position. Meanwhile, Angad Bajwa pulled out from the event due to health issues. On Saturday, three more rounds of qualification will be there and top-six for the final round will be finalised. Sheeraz and Mairaj are also aiming for the two Tokyo 2020 Olympic quota places on offer in the event. (UNI)
Sony to broadcast archery events
Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited on Friday announced that it will telecast all international archery events of this year, including next month’s World Championships. Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited will telecast the events across eight territories of the Indian sub-continent — India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Maldives as per the broadcast deal with World Archery. “We expect this new partnership with Sony to leverage the excitement of our international calendar to engage people with archery in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games,” World Archery President Ugur Erdener said in a release. “Ever since Deepika Kumari’s victory at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Indian archers have come within a few arrow’s widths of claiming titles at the sport’s biggest events. Archery is a sport of precision, patience and practice — and of rising popularity in the Indian sub-continent, where it is rooted in the region’s culture and history.” (IANS)
