Ri Bhoi DC asked to submit detailed report on Balakhowa incident

SHILLONG: A fact-finding team of the MDA Government led by Health and Family Welfare Minister, A L Hek has directed the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner to submit a detailed report immediately about the recent incident in Balakhowa in Jirang Assembly constituency.

Hek led the delegation to assess the ground situation in Balkhawa village in Ri-Bhoi district following the recent attack and arrest of Michael Warjri, who is the Secretary of Hima Nongspung, by Assam police.

Hek was accompanied by Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation, Renikton Tongkhar, Jirang local MLA Sostheness Sohtun and Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat.

The delegation of the Government visited the house of the Secretary of Michael Warji which was attacked following his opposition to PMGSY road initiated by the Assam Government.

Warjri was arrested by Assam Police and he is yet to get a bail. Speaking to newsmen, Hek said that the Deputy Commissioner has been asked to submit the report immediately and based on the report; the matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister.

Hek confirmed that only house and property belonging to Michael Warjri was demolished while other houses were not even touched

Demanding that the people who were involved in the incident should be arrested, he added that the case should also be transferred to Meghalaya since the place of occurrence is inside the jurisdiction of Meghalaya.
