Traffic congestion brings city to standstill

SHILLONG: Shillong city on Friday witnessed unprecedented traffic jam right from the early morning hours and vehicle movement had temporarily come to a halt in Anjalee, Jhalupara, and Lumdiengjri.
A police official said that the problem cropped up when a construction company was moving two cranes on two trailers a few days back. On Friday morning, the trailer transporting the crane along the 3rd Mile road in Upper Shillong got stuck and caused a major blockade.
“The trailer carrying the crane got stuck there and it could not move,” the official said
Police also said that the city witnessed traffic right from 7 am to 12 noon.
