SHILLONG: Meghalaya will seek over Rs 15,000 crore from 15th Finance Commission during a meeting to be held next month.
The Commission will hold meeting with the state government officials in Shillong on June 3 and 4.
An official said the need of the government is Rs 18,800 crore for various development projects.
The priority will be on Sports inview of the upcoming National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya.
Besides sports, other priority areas are health, education and road sectors.
The Commission is expected to meet the CEMs of autonomous district councils to discuss the development needs.
Earlier, during the meeting of the Commission in Tripura in January this year, there was a suggestion that the Northeastern states should attract private capital to reduce dependency on Central funds.
The Commission had stressed that the Centre wanted the states to be dependent on their own resources.
