SHILLONG: The All Garo Hills Anganwadi Workers’ Association (AGHAWA) has lodged a complaint with the Director of Social Welfare Department on the problems being faced by the anganwadi workers of Garo Hills.
In a statement, the secretary AGHAWA, M D Shira, said anganwadi workers of Songsak and Samanada in East Garo Hills and Dalu in West Garo Hills are being paid inadequate honorarium and the reason is not known.
“This has compelled us to bring the matter to the notice of the head of the department for proper investigation”, Shira said.
She said the payment for cost of firewood too is irregular and the anganwadi workers of Tura urban area have not yet received it since last year.
“So, we appeal that the cost of firewood should be paid at least quarterly and regularly”, she said.
The AGHAWA has also sought payment for election duty for the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. It was for the first time that the anganwadi workers were assigned poll duty.
The All Garo Hills Anganwadi Workers’ Association has also raised the demanded enhancement of the honourarium of mini anganwadi workers of the region.
