SHILLONG: As an initiative for raising climate change awareness, a rally by teenagers under the banner of Friday for Future, will be held on May 24.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Joel Blah Kyndiah said, “It is all about youth to push for political action. Climate change is an issue but it is not significantly addressed.”

Kyndiah and his friends made an appeal to everyone to join hands and participate at the rally and expressed concern that the people of the state were oblivious to climate change impact.

The group plans to submit a 6-point resolution to the Chief Minister or to any other minister after the rally.  They suggested for declaring climate emergency in India as done in other countries.

Kyndiah said, “We are not facing salubrious weather as in previous years.” The youngsters suggested people to use more of public transport, go for rain water harvesting.

They have approached approximately five schools. The teenagers have requested people to sign up for the campaign through their Facebook “Friday for future- Shillong” and Instagram.
