SHILLONG: Phulbari MLA SG Estamur Mominin has asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to pass necessary directions for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the respective accounts of the job card holders of 34 village employment councils (VECs) in Phulbari constituency and Demdema developmental block.
Mominin in a petition said that despite the central and state government’s decision to credit wages directly to the bank accounts of the job card holders under MGNREGA, in 34 VECs, these are being credited to the joint account of the president and secretary of the councils creating scope for misappropriation.
The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner stated that Selsella and Demdema developmental blocks are identified as pilot blocks since June 2018 for the implementation of 100 per cent DBT, but the number of individual bank accounts under Selsella block is 19.74 per cent out of the total registered beneficiaries despite the exercise.
The DC has been urged to ensure that block officials hold meetings with the VECs in campaign mode for a month.
