Army recruitment
The Army will be conducting the recruitment rallies for women for enrolment into soldier (general duty) category as Women Military Police in July. Headquarter Recruiting Zone, Shillong has been nominated to conduct the rally for North East region and Kolkata Zone. Online registration and application is compulsory. Drive against IMFL
In its continued drive against illicit liquor, the Excise staff of East Khasi Hills District conducted raids in the restaurants and stalls in the town and its outskirts wherein during month of March, the team detected 70 cases with a seizure of 1460.565 litres of i/d liquor and 409.865 litres IMFL. 43 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
Awards
The Ministry of Home Affairs had instituted an Award designed “Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards, 2019” for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving life. The awards are given in three categories: (i) Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, (ii) Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and (iii) Jeevan Raksha Padak. R & R Colony Welfare Society along with rest of country observed ‘Bhasa Shahid Diwas’ at R & R Colony Community Hall on Sunday. Abhijit Choudhury, retired Professor of Edmunds College and Dhananjoy Chakraborty, general secretary of Bangiya Sahitya Parishad delivered key note addresses. Members of Welfare Society and residents of the locality paid floral tributes to the Martyrs of Bhasa Movement and recollected their contribution towards Bengali Language Movement.

Birth anniv
Meghandini Mahila Samiti in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Shillong celebrated 158th birth anniversary of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore on the premises of Matri Mandir in the city on Sunday. A senior official from Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan attended the programme as chief guest besides other dignitaries.
