65-year-old murdered in WGH
TURA: The body of a 65-year-old man identified as Mingnan Ch Sangma was recovered from the village of Menggotchigre near Jangrapara under Tikrikilla PS in West Garo hills on Sunday evening. The incident took place on Sunday itself. According to police sources, the body bore multiple stab wounds and was left dumped in a plantation within the village. Till now, the police have not found any reason for the murder and felt it could be due to a family dispute. Locals however pointed to the angle of voodoo practice (witchcraft) that could have led to the murder. “All formalities have been completed, including a post mortem. We are currently questioning family members as well as villagers to ascertain as to why the murder took place. There should be more clarity once more details emerge on the murder,” said superintendent of police, WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.

Two held for stealing cows
Mawkyrwat: The Mawkyrwat police arrested two persons accused of stealing cows from Rangblang village and selling them at Umdohlun market for slaughter on Tuesday. South West Khasi Hills SP Maxwell B Syiem informed that the accused were identified as Swiwlang Thongnirit of Mawpat village and Thwos Thongnirit of Umdohlun village. According to the FIR filed by Gipling Sangriang of Rangblang village, the incident took place on May 19 when four of his cows went missing. “After searching and seeking information, some people informed me that they saw two persons with my cattle,” Sangriang said. After receiving the FIR, the police immediately arrested the two persons. “The case has been registered and the accused forwarded to the court asking for two days police custody,” Syiem said.

Ex-servicemen rally on May 25
Shillong: The Meghalaya State ex-servicemen (ESM) rally organised jointly by Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) & Headquarters 101 Area will be held on May 25 at Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong. The issues pertaining to pension, medical and recruitment of wards of ESM will be addressed and discussed by officials of Army and state government. Ex-servicemen, veer naris, widows & dependents of Meghalaya state are expected to attend the event in order to resolve their grievances. Governor Tathagata Roy will be the chief guest.

BSF docs decorated for services
SHILLONG: Doctors of Composite Hospital BSF, Shillong, namely Dr Ashish Kumar, CMO(SG) and Dr Dakji Dulom, 2IC/Aneasthist were decorated with DG’s disc by the Director General of Assam Rifles on Tuesday. The decoration was in recognition to the services tendered towards Medicare of Assam Rifles’ personnel. As a practice, the serving personnel are decorated with the director General(GD)’s disc of the organisation they are serving, but this gesture of DG Assam Rifles Lt Gen S. Sangwan has made new bench mark.
