TURA: Congress parliamentary candidate for Tura Lok Sabha seat and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has congratulated his opponent Agatha K Sangma for her victory stating that the Congress respects and honours the peoples’ mandate in the election.

On the defeat of the Congress in both Tura and the rest of the country he said, “To be analytical at this juncture you will have to do a lot of exercise on this. People wanted to repeat the same mandate given in 2014 and despite issues people probably wanted to give some more time for the incumbent leadership,” said Mukul Sangma while speaking to The Shillong Times over phone.

On the defeat of his candidature from the prestigious Tura parliamentary seat, Mukul Sangma said that there should have been advance planning. “There was lots of dilemma in candidature because I probably wasn’t prepared to be a candidate mentally but subsequently decided keeping in mind the large interests of the party and responding to the call of duty from the party perspective,” said Mukul Sangma.
