CAB an issue for UDP’s loss

SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister and UDP MLA from Khliehriat, Kyrmen Shylla has said Congress MP, Vincent Pala got many votes in Jaintia Hills as people loved him and he was always in touch with them. The people did not vote for common candidate, Jemino Mawthoh as they are scared of the BJP and the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), he added.
Admitting that winning and losing is part of the game, he stated that people love Mawthoh as well but something went wrong with the issue of CAB.
Shylla said the UDP is working hard to re-strengthen the party in Jaintia Hills even as he added that the party needs to win the confidence of the people.
The winner of the Lok Sabha elections from Shillong, Vincent Pala received quite a substantial number of votes from the rural constituencies including the constituencies in Jaintia Hills despite the fact that NPP and UDP have strong presence in many constituencies of Jaintia Hills.
Mawthoh got votes in the range of 5000 to 8000 in four constituencies of Jaintia Hills except Sutnga Saipung and Khliehriat where he got 13184 and 15870 votes respectively whereas Pala got votes in the range of 11000 to 15000 votes in all the constituencies of Ri Bhoi.
