‘School headmaster not involved in illegal mining’
SHILLONG: Advocate A .H Hazarika, on behalf of Headmaster of Khonjoy Deficit U.P School Tiperson G Momin, has informed that his client has not carried out any illegal stone, limestone or coal mining activities or trade. Earlier, as reported in this daily on April 5 this year, Sanggra Marak, president of United Achik Youth Federation, South West Khasi Hills Zone, had alleged that the school headmaster was involved in illegal stone mining. Marak had claimed through a statement to the media that Brensly Riangshiang, the agent of Lum Pyndengru had lodged a complaint on April 17 against Momin for illegal stone mining, However, in response, the Advocate said it was totally false allegation and his client has not carried out any limestone mining activities or trade. The Advocate also said the allegation that his client has formed an association called “Bagli Export Association” is totally false, however, on the request of the public, he joined the association as the president in September 2018 and with the permission of the Managing Committee of the School which is allowed as per provision of law, and moreover, his client is not a government servant but a private teacher in aided school.
KSU nabs suspected B’deshis
Mawkyrwat: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) Ranikor Border Area Unit on Monday apprehended a suspected Bangladeshi national from Mawshun area in South West Khasi Hills District while another two managed to escape. President of the KSU Border Area unit, Andy Marwein said that the suspected Bangladeshi national was identified as Abdulbe Islam, 40. “He is suspected to be the member of a robbery gang that had become a menace for the local people,” Marwein said. Marwein also claimed that recently, the KSU had detected five suspected Bangladeshis armed with sharp weapons who were trying to rob people travelling to and from Nongjri-Lailad area. “Luckily two bikes escaped unharmed from the jaws of the armed gang which had laid a trap for them,” Marwein added. Condemning the state police and the BSF for their failure in preventing influx from the other side of the international border, Marwein warned that the KSU would take matters into their own hands to prevent further influx.
Midday meal cooks demand hike in honorarium
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured the delegation of midday meal cooks-cum helpers to discuss the enhancement of their honorarium with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While discussing the matter with Sangma at his bungalow on Monday, the helpers and cooks requested the chief minister to consider enhancing their honorarium to Rs 5000 per month. The delegation informed the chief minister that they worked from 8 am till 5 pm earning an honorarium of Rs 1000 per month which is around Rs 30 per day. The delegation requested the chief minister to credit monthly honorarium to the personal saving bank accounts of the cooks. The delegation informed that the cooks and helpers are not paid for the whole year but only during the months when schools are open. Referring to their children’s future, they requested the chief minister to recommend them to be members of Meghalaya building & other constructions welfare board or to cover them in any Health, Social and Pension schemes sponsored by the government and ensure they can avail sick, maternity and paternity leaves. Taking initiative towards a clean environment, the cooks and helpers suggested the chief minister to give direction to the concerned authority to make use of the solar energy or the LPG in the mid day meal kitchens in order to save more trees used in cooking meals for the students.
