NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin Civil Hospital has conducted a rare operation on a 47-year-old Hemithyroidectomy patient where the doctors successfully removed 350 gms mass from his neck.
The operation which lasted 4 hours was led by Dr. K. Khyllep (surgeon), Dr. M. Surong (Anesthesiologist) and their team.
The patient from Rambrai village in West Khasi Hills has regained consciousness.
Besides the problems related to infrastructure, the hospital has achieved the feat.
The non-operational Blood Bank in Nongstoin was one of the main reasons that the doctors did not want to take the risk of conducting operations in Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
For many years, the blood bank was not operational and the government had made assurances in the past to rectify the problem.
Doctors in Nongstoin Civil Hospital said more surgeries can be done in the hospital if the blood bank is functional.
