J-K Guv conducts aerial survey of Amarnath yatra route
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Sunday conducted an aerial survey of the Amarnath yatra route to gain a first-hand view of the existing snow accumulation levels, an official said. Malik was accompanied by his advisor K Vijay Kumar and chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, the official added. The governor surveyed the entire Amarnath yatra route, along the Baltal-Domel-Sangam-Panjtarni-Sheshnag-Chandanwari-Pahalgam axis, the official said. Malik expressed satisfaction upon the pace of ongoing snow clearing work and restoration of the tracks, he said. The governor also impressed upon the concerned authorities to ensure that the tracks are repaired and cleared and all facilities required for the smooth conduct of the yatra put in place before its commencement on July 1. Senior BJP leader dies
Dehradun: Senior BJP leader Umesh Aggrawal passed away here on Sunday after a prolonged illness. Aggrawal breathed his last at his Subhash Nagar residence here at around 3.30 am, state BJP media chief Devendra Bhasin said. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief at the party leader’s demise. Aggrawal was the former city (Mahanagar) president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. (PTI)
Tribal woman raped in MP, dies
Kota (Rajasthan): A 20-year-old tribal woman, who was allegedly raped and administered a poisonous substance by a youth in Madjya Pradesh, died at a hospital in Rajasthan’s Baran district, police said Sunday. Four women from the Rajasthan’s Kanjar tribe had gone to Madhya Pradesh’s Guna town to perform at a private programme on Friday, they said. Two of them were taken by two youths to a forested area from the bus stand. One of the women was raped, police said. The youths dropped the women at the Ruthiyai railway station near Guna on Friday night and they returned by train to Baran on Saturday morning, they said. The victim was admitted to a hospital in Baran in a semi-unconscious state and she died on Saturday. The body was handed over to her family later that afternoon, police said. The sister of the woman, who was allegedly raped, in a complaint said one of the youth, identified as Pankaj Kalal, after raping her administered her some poisonous substance, SHO, Chabda, Tarachand, said. Police have registered a zero FIR in the matter under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape. (PTI)
Six injured during clash
Muzaffarnagar (UP): At least six persons were injured in stone-pelting during a clash between two groups over a minor dispute at Shernagar village in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday evening at Shernagar village under the New Mandi police station, they added. Two men — Rashid and Temur — got into a confrontation over car parking, which turned into a violent clash after others joined the melee, the police said. The two groups hurled stones at each other, resulting in injuries to at least six persons, they added. (PTI)
Man stabbed to death in J-K
Jammu: A 30-year old man has been stabbed to death by unknown persons in the border area of Arnia here, police said Sunday. Moti Lal, alias Toni, son of Bodh Raj from Kather village in Arnia, was stabbed at his shop in Kather on Saturday night, a senior officer said. Lal was shifted to the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu where he succumbed to injuries, he said. (PTI)
Man held for killing brother
Palghar: A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his younger brother in Palghar district of Maharashtra, a police official said on Sunday. The accused, Ravish Sambre, was annoyed with his brother Sharad Sambre (35) over some petty issue, he said. While the victim and his wife were walking towards their home in Wada taluka here on Saturday, the accused, in a fit of anger, hit him with a wooden log, killing him on the spot, the official said. The deceased’s wife lodged a complaint following which the accused was arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder), he said, adding that a probe was underway into the incident.
