SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Butchers’ Welfare Association (KJBWA) said they do not intend to purchase cattle from Khanapara market as they want to shift the market to Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, president of the association, Generous Warlarpih said that the association does not intend to withdraw the strike unless the disorder pertaining to the market is resolved.
“We have identified 2-3 places for the market in Byrnihat and we will discuss about this in the coming week. There is no understanding there at Khanapara market,” he said.
Warlarpih said that the association wants to detect cattle smuggling and the health check-up for cattle.
He also informed that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong who is also in charge of Animal Husbandry, had assured support to the association concerning the market for cattle which will be up to the convenience of the association members.
On being asked about when the association would withdraw the strike, he said that the decision will likely be taken up this week.
