TURA: Organisations from Rongjeng area in East Garo Hills have sought action against a particular contractor in charge of constructing the Model College for Rongjeng Darugre village for allegedly using substandard materials.
In their complaint to the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the organizations, including the FKJGP, ASWA and GSU, sought action against the Tura-based contractor as well as the site engineers.
During a recent visit to the construction site, they found that substandard stones were being used.
“We are alarmed that such poor quality materials are being used for the construction. What is the guarantee that the building will stay upright even for a year? The contractor and the PWD engineers are equally guilty in this and criminal charges should be filed against them,” the organisations said.
According to the organisations, workers at the site revealed that substandard materials were being used as neither the engineer nor the contractor had provided quality materials.
They have sought the deputy commissioner’s intervention and the immediate stoppage of work at the site.
