Accused of issuing patta to non-tribals

SHILLONG: The Executive Committee (EC) Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has reinstated Freeman Sing Syiem as the Syiem of Hima Sohra who was earlier suspended by the previous EC of KHADC.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy CEM and Executive Member (EM) in charge of Elaka, Pyniaid Syiem said that the current EC has thoroughly examined the inquiry report and decided to reinstate him.
In the wake of allegations of issuing patta to non-tribals and giving away tribal lands to non-tribals, Pyniaid pointed out that the Syiem could not have issued the patta on his own accord.
“The inquiry report did not point that it is the handiwork of the Syiem alone. We have directed the Syiem to convene a Dorbar and the executive Dorbar and later the public Dorbar (Dorbar paidbah),” Pyniaid said.
He went on to add that Hima Sohra has been directed to not issue patta, residential certificates without consulting the Sordar of a Raid and the issuing of No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Syiem should not be done without prior approval of KHADC.
Meanwhile, Freeman said the administration of Hima Sohra is also entrusted on the Myntris and blamed the Myntris for misleading him.
“The issuing of patta is as per the report given by the Myntris,” he said.
As with the issue of Majai which also falls under Hima Sohra where a number of non-tribals are residing, Freeman again blamed his Myntris.
He alleged that the previous Myntris who are looking after Majai have turned against him after they are no longer in power as Myntri in-charge.
