TURA: In an effort to provide better service to the people of the region, the Commissioner of Division, Garo Hills Division, P Sampath Kumar reviewed the status and progress of the implementation of various projects with regards to the Community and Rural Development, Education, Health, ICDS and Swachh Bharat Mission, etc., in their respective districts.
CEO, MSRLS, Shantanu Sharma, Deputy Commissioners’ of all Districts, Project Directors’ were among others who attended the meeting.
Initiating the discussion during the meeting, P Sampath Kumar enquired about the key issues and challenges faced in the region and also to find out effective methods for providing better service delivery mechanism to the people in the respective districts. Referring to the dismal percentage achieved in the recently conducted Board Examinations, he said that the districts need to focus on education sector and try to increase the pass percentage in the region. Further, he also emphasize to focus on Institutional Delivery since the status report showed less institutional delivery cases, and said that the performance of both these sectors need to be improved in future.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ampati Ram Kumar shared his plans and activities which is being implemented in the district and informed that since SWGH has lowest percentage in Board Examinations, coaching classes are being conducted every Saturday for students of class ten. He added that direction has been given to Education officials to adopt and inspect the schools regularly with regard to the completion of syllabus, method of preparation of students to appear for examinations, etc. He also informed that as most of the failed students do not appear for the exams again with some of them getting involve in anti-social activities, proper guidance need to be given to these students for their future career.
Moreover, with regard to the implementation of Solid Liquid Waste Management works, he said that individual soak pits were made based on the density of population of the area and added that banana plants can be planted near the soakpits since it absorbs water.
Other issues discussed during the meeting included status of IMR and MMR, maternal death, institutional delivery from health department, results of SSLC and HSSLC exams of 2019, RMSA building construction report from education department, status of malnourished children, Anganwadi payment, infrastructure status of Anganwadi centres from ICDS, status of retrofitting of toilets, Solid Liquid Waste Management works, distribution of Prime Minister letters to Nokmas and VWSCs from Swachh Bharat Mission and strategy and action for taking up water conservation and NRM related works during monsoon season as part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (Nationwide Water Campaign launched by Government of India from 1st July to 15th September 2019), convergence of CLLMP/LAMP, Bottom 20 identification and implementation status under community and rural development department in the districts.In his concluding remark, P Sampat Kumar suggested that every districts should start coaching class for class ten students and to give motivational training to teachers on a regular basis so as to make them as agents of change and also insisted on pedagogy evaluation through Block Resource Persons of the district. Focusing on the Water conservation works in the district, he said that technical assistants should first identify the water source and then locate the area for making trenches to store water and also to sensitize the people about widespread water shortages and conservation initiatives taken to create water security in our district. He further urged the concerned officers to focus on Bottom 20 beneficiaries on a continuous process and to engage one woman from each household to be a member of the SHG groups. He also informed that monthly review meeting would be held and as a follow up, the Deputy Commissioners will have a review meeting with the line departments in their respective districts.
