TURA: The conflict between four organisations in Garo Hills – the GSU (Tengsak), FKJGP, ADE and AYWO – and former ANVC (B) chairman Bernard N Marak has refused to die down with the organisations protesting on Friday demanding for the immediate arrest of Marak in connection with an FIR filed earlier by them.
The rally kicked off at the PA Sangma stadium and culminated at the Government College Playground in Te’teng A’ja.
The two sides have been at odds ever since a recreational spot owned by the former militant leader near Edenbari ‘Rimpu bagan’ was targeted by unidentified arsonists.
Marak had named the leaders of the pressure groups as the main suspects and an FIR was filed against them.
Later, a counter FIR was filed against Marak and his associates by the leaders who alleged them of forcefully entering their homes and misbehaving with the women folk during their absence.
Clarifying on the matter, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar said that Bernard Marak was arrested in connection with the FIR but has been released after getting bail.
