SHILLONG: A police complaint has been filed against the Secretary of the Governing Body and the Principal, Sylvanus Lamare of St. Edmund’s College, for allegedly withdrawing funds allotted and released by the government for the purpose of making payments to teachers.
A woman, A Basaiawmoit, lodged the complaint that illegal acts have been perpetuated by the Secretary of the Governing Body of St. Edmund’s College, Bro. Simon Coelho, along with active participation of Sylvanus Lamare in withdrawing money allotted and released by the government for the purpose of making payments to teachers engaged and involved in taking morning shift classes in the college.
When contacted, Sylvanus Lamare said that he did not know anything about the matter.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) said that they are protesting against the arbitrary termination of service of Jeffreyson Wahlang by the management of St. Edmund’s College.
The association started their protest on July 1, and they said that they will continue until the demand for the reinstatement of Wahlang is met.
However, keeping in mind the interest of the student community, the association has decided to opt for other modes of protests without disrupting regular classes.
“Its stance remains unchanged and should the management of St. Edmund’s College refuse to comply with the demands, the agitation will be intensified in the days to come,” the association said in a statement here.
