Police arrest minor, another
MAWKYRWAT: The Mawkyrwat Police arrested two persons including a 12-year-old boy while they were stealing from a shop at Mawkyrwat Market, South West Khasi Hills on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Dramly Lyngdoh Marshilong (38) of Jashiar village and a minor boy from Mawkyrwat area. According to the police, the two were arrested after they were caught red handed by the police while they were stealing from a mobile shop at Mawkyrwat Market around 2.30 am. Police informed that the two were involved in 7 to 8 theft cases from Mawkyrwat Market and other markets in the area. Police also informed that a case Under Section 457/380 of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the minor was sent to the Juvenile home.

Ban on dumping of garbage
NONGPOH: The general public have been informed to not dump waste on the road side but only in the dustbin provided by the Nongpoh Town Committee or their concern villages. It has been reported time and again that indiscriminate dumping of garbage/domestic waste is taken place by the road side, along the National Highway, service road and other roads or places within Ri Bhoi District. The concerned authorities are to check that all dumping waste are cleared and clean on time to avoid any unwanted air pollution which may cause health hazard to the public that resides in those areas and the commuters as well.

Awareness on cooperatives
NONGSTOIN: An Awareness-cum-Motivational Programme on Cooperative Societies was conducted by the office of the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies West Khasi Hills at L.B.I. Center Mawkhlam-Nongpyndeng, Nongstoin on Tuesday where Additional Deputy Commissioner PD Sangma was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that cooperative societies play an important role in eradicating poverty and unemployment thus improving the economic condition of the people. He urged villagers and farmers to form cooperatives as it can provide employment to local residents. Others who spoke on the occasion included W Nonglang, Branch Manager MCAB Nongstoin Branch, Dr W Hoojon District AH & Vety. Officer, Nongstoin, JC Paul, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies, Nongstoin and J Tariang.

NCC training seminar
SHILLONG: A four-day Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) & Caretaker Officers (CTOs) training seminar was organised by the NCC group Head Quarters Meghalaya with the State Education Department, Meghalaya at the DGAR Records Conference Hall, Laitumkhrah which will conclude on July 12. ANOs from across the state will be attending the seminar. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui will grace the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. The principals and heads of all leading institutions of Meghalaya, affiliated with NCC have been invited. Others who will be present include Vice Chancellor of NEHU Prof SK Srivastava and Additional Director General of NCC, Major General Bipin Bakshi, VSM.

Youth skill programme in RB
NONGPOH: The Care Educational and Welfare Society on Tuesday hosted Kaushal Yuva Samwaad (Youth Skill Parliament) in its campus located at 13th Mile, Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi. The programme was attended by 52 registered trainees and a dialogue was organised amongst them under Skill India Mission. In order to commemorate World Youth Skills Day on July 15 and observe the 4th Anniversary of Skill India Mission, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has invited all training centres to organise ‘Kaushal Yuva Samwaad’ between July 8 and 10 respectively. Pushpa Chetri Center Head of Care Educational and Welfare Society said Kaushal Yuva Samwaad is an initiative to understand the mindset of the youths. Post the dialogue, the recommendations from the Kaushal Yuva Samwaad will be submitted to the Ministry via a portal nsdcindia.org/kys. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an open dialogue with the Ministers of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship on July 15 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Release of pending bills
TURA: Contractors from East Garo Hills under the banner of the East Garo Hills Tribal Contractors Association (EGHTCA) have written to the district treasury officer questioning the long delay in the payment of their dues. In their letter to the official, the contractors lamented that they were yet to be paid their dues despite completion of necessary procedures including advice lists and bills for various departments which have been already passed and sent to the treasury officer’s desk for passing, well before the end of the first quarter.
