KSU shuts offices for dishonouring state holiday

JOWAI: The Khasi Students’ Union, Khliehriat Circle, on Wednesday shut down the Ladrymbai Post Office, Khliehriat Post Office and also the State Bank of India (Khliehriat Branch) for not honouring the holiday announced by the state Government on account of the death anniversary of U Tirot Sing.
The union locked all three offices and warned any other government office of dishonouring such state holiday in tribute to the freedom fighters of the state.
The KSU also stated that the dishonouring of the state holdiday given to observe the death anniversary of a great freedom fighter is an insult to the Khasi and Pnar community as a whole.
“We will not allow this to happen”, said Streamly Niangti, Secretary of KSU, Khliehriat Unit.
