Brahmaputra Board plans three schemes

SHILLONG: MDC of Rambrai-Jyrngam, Bajop Pyngrope opposed the Kulsi Multipurpose Project which is a national project to be undertaken by the Brahmaputra Board asserting that the project site is located at Ukiam which is a disputed area between Meghalaya and Assam.
The project includes irrigation, power and flood management.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said that No Objection Certificate (NOC) should not be issued to Brahmaputra Board and said the project will not benefit the state.
He said, “Around 35 villages will be submerged once the project starts as the dam is located at a height of more than 100m. The issue of rehabilitating the villages should also be done.”
Pyngrope asserted that villages located downstream of the dam will be affected even those in Assam.
He informed that he met Home Minister James Sangma to apprise him of the matter, however, Sangma said he has no knowledge about the development.
