SHILLONG: The CRPF celebrates its 80th Raising Day on Friday.
On the occasion various activities was organised in all the Units of North Easter Sector, CRPF deployed in the State of Assam and Meghalaya.
The IGP, North Eastern Sector, CRPF, Sh. Prakash. D exhorted the officers and men to rededicate themselves in the nation building exercise.
The Central Reserve Police Force is the premier central police force of the Union of India for internal security. Originally constituted as the Crown Representative Police on 1939, it is one of the oldest Central Para military forces. CRPF was raised in July 27, 1939 as “Crown Representative” to help the States to preserve law and order.
After Independence, the force was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949. This Act constituted CRPF as an armed force of the Union. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the then Home Minister, visualised a multi-dimensional role for it in tune with the changing needs of a newly independent nation.
