Home Science students excel in ICAR-JRF exam
TURA: Students of College of Community Science (Home Science), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Tura have brought laurels to the college by doing well in the recently conducted ICAR-JRF Examination 2019. According to a release issued here by the authorities of the university, Bernice Ekhe, a student of the college hailing from Senapati District in Manipur managed to secure the 1st position (All India Rank) and also the 1st position in the ST category in the examination held for Community (Home) Science subjects. Other students who excelled in the all India examination included Tage Ani of Lower Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh and Atulla C Momin, of Resubelpara in North Garo Hills, who secured the 3rd and 4th positions respectively in the ST category. The ICAR-JRF examination is an annual test which is conducted by ICAR, New Delhi for graduating students or graduates of agricultural colleges and universities, who desire to pursue their PG studies in a recognised central or state agricultural university.

BSF trains 65 boys for SSC exams
SHILLONG: The 26 Battalion Border Security Force, deployed in South West Garo Hills under Tura sector of FTR HQ, took a pro-active step to guide the youths of the border areas for the CAPF exam, a release issued here on Monday informed. Vishal Rane, Comdt. 26 Bn BSF, informed that during the mentoring of the aspiring candidates, a three-day demo classes for computer-based exam was conducted. Besides, competition preparation classes of SSC GD were conducted from October, 2018 to February, 2019 at BOP Mahenderganj. Altogether 251 candidates had applied for SSC GD Exam out of which 65 got through. Further preparation to train the selected candidates in physical and medical tests of CAPF recruitment is under way, the release informed. U K Nayal, DIG/PRO, said that the project is aimed to support and help the underprivileged students of border areas to achieve success in their career. Kuldeep Saini, IG FTR HQ BSF Meghalaya said that BSF is planning to conduct more of such coaching classes and various skill development programmes for unemployed youths.

Debate, painting competition
SHILLONG: Army Public School, Shillong hosted an inter- school English debate and painting competition as part of 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 27.
The topic for the debate was ‘Kashmir is an unfinished agenda in Indo-Pak relation’ and the theme for the painting competition was ‘Indian Army: Symbol of valour, courage and sacrifice.’ The first position in the debate competition was bagged by Army Public School Shillong with Piyal Bannerjee and Prakriti Kumari being adjudged the `best speaker’ while the `best interjector’ award went to AS Makarmi of APS, Happy Valley. In the painting competition, Ishita Gogoi of APS Happy Valley secured first position, Yati Yadav of APS Shillong secured second position and Prashanta Sarmah Bordoloi of KV EAC Upper Shillong secured the third position.

Workshop-cum-training on IFS
SHILLONG: A three-day workshop-cum-training programme on “Integrated Farming System (IFS) with special emphasis on Farm Development Card (FDC)” was organised by the College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, Kyrdemkulai at the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS) campus, Umiam, Ri Bhoi on Monday. The workshop conducted open discussions to identify the challenges and opportunities for promotion of IFS with the involvement of various experts and local stakeholders. The programme was attended by R. Rapthap, IAS, Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Meghalaya, B. Hajong, Executive Director, Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), Government of Meghalaya, Amir Sultan, Consultant, Asian Development Bank under Japan fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR-TA), M. Pariat, Chief Operating Officer, MSSDS and R. K. Tombisana Devi, Professor, CPGSAS, CAU-I, Umiam, as well as, the trainees and trainers from MSSDS, RRTC and Bethany society and eminent scientists/experts from different organizations were also present at the workshop-cum-training programme. The participants were exposed to the FDC concept which could be a game changer in the rural/agricultural sector of the state.

Run to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas
SHILLONG: Air Force Station Laitkor Peak organised a ‘Run’ on Sunday as part of Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay tribute to the Martyrs of the Kargil War, a release issued here informed. Air warriors, Defence Security Corps (DSC) personnel, Military Engineers Service (MES), children from KV School, volunteers from BSF, CRPF and Directorate General of Assam Rifles participated in the programme. The ‘Run’ commenced from Air Force Station, Laitkor Peak to culminate at Polo Ground passing through Shillong City. Station Commander of Air Force Station Laitkor Peak flagged off the run at the Shillong Peak.

Achik body elects members
SHILLONG: The secretary of Achik Matgrik Kotok, Deepan Wareng G Momin, in a statement issued here, informed that the Achik Matgrik Kotok (AMK) has re-elected its leaders. Bernard Rimpu N Marak continues to hold the post of the Chairman and Deepan Wareng G Momin is re-elected as the General Secretary. The vice Chairmen are Tangkam R Sangma and Moloy G Sangma. Joint Secretaries are Tangseng N Sangma and Rakrak Ch Marak. Organising Secretaries are Zemzem R Marak, Amit Akimbri R Marak and Sangley R Sangma. Twenty other executive members will be inducted by the Achik Matgrik Kotok Core Body. Moreover, he said that 2019 is the 150th year of the birth of Garo Hills District through the Garo Hills Act of 1869, however, no intiative has been initiated from any corner. The organisation will organise events like seminars, debates, discussion besides the Garo Hills day in a grand way on September 24 this year.
