SWKH bans smoking in public

MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South Wes Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo, has issued an order banning smoking in public places, sales of cigarettes or any other tobacco products to minors and within a radius of 100 yards from any educational institutions.
As per the order, no person is allowed to smoke in public places such as auditorium, hospital buildings, educational institutions, amusement centres, restaurants, court buildings, libraries and public conveyances.
“All heads of departments, managers, principals, etc. must display a ‘No Smoking Signage’ as specified under the law and anyone found violating it will be punished with a fine of up to Rs 200,” the DC said.
