12 students injured in clash with police

Imphal: About twelve school students, eight of them girls were seriously injured in clashes between students and police over the death of a girl in a school hostel on Saturday.
Students came out in the streets shouting slogans and police resorted to firing of tear gas shells, rubber bullets which led to injury of the students. Most of the students were rushed to RIMS and JNIMS. Four students were in critical conditions.
Hundreds of people also came out surrendering themselves to the police. They said they were not afraid of being arrested as they were shocked by the failure of the government to solve the crime.
On Friday life was affected due to state wide strike imposed by JAC against the murder of Babysana from 5 am to midnight. The JAC against the murder of Babysana had been protesting since July 18 last.
School authority claimed the Class VIII student, committed suicide but bruises were found on her knee and other parts of the body. There were also about 34 students in the same room which led to mass protest against the school authority. The body of the girl was final claimed on July 31 for the final rites. The JAC and student bodies have protested the delay in the probe. After an intense struggle the owner cum principal of the school, Landhoni was detained along with her daughter and son for alleged involvement in the death of the girl.
They said they will continue the stir until justice was done to Babysana. Police claimed that the girl died due to hanging which were rejected by the JAC and family members. (UNI)
