JOWAI: The All Jaintia Cement & Clinker Transports Association (AJCCTA) has demanded to shut down all weighbridges operational along the National Highway from Malidor to Byrnihat.
“Except those in the entry and exit points, we demanded that all weighbridges are to be shutdown”, the AJCCTA secretary Kyrshan Dkhar said.
The Um-tyr-a weighbridge and the Hynniawmer weighbridge is not in the entry – exit points, so they should be shutdown, the AJCCTA demanded.
Meanwhile, the AJCCTA has strongly condemned the official and staff of the Amsarin weighbridge for overcharging the weighment fees.
The official and staff of the Amsarin Weighbridge situated at Sohkha in Amlarem Subdivision have been charging Rs 1200 per truck while the actual weighbridge fee is Rs 200. They also charge Rs 1000 extra for their own pockets, the AJCCTA alleged.
Dkhar also informed that the meeting held on August 16, has also demanded the closedown of many police check points.
“We want only one police check point in each district”, he added.
“The presence of multiple police check points along the highway has financially affected the truck owners and the drivers as these police check point are not for anything but for collecting money from truckers. In each check post, drivers has to pay hundreds of Rupees in order to get through, the AJCCTA informed.
