SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Committee on environment has summoned many cement companies operating in East Jaintia Hills to Shillong to present their case about the environmental safeguard being taken by them.
Chairman of the Committee, SK Sunn informed that the Committee visited the cement companies and spent two days inspecting their facilities to ensure that they function according to the norms.
It has given the companies ten days time to bring all their papers to Shillong. The Committee will sit for a discussion in Shillong about the issues of environmental protection to be taken by them.
Officials of the Forest and Pollution Control Board will also be present in the meeting.
During the visit, the Committee also raised several questions pertaining to the operation of these companies but however details of the inspection have not been shared with the media.
