GH DC warns against public drinking

TURA: In view of complaints received from the public that important places in and around Tura Town have become places for alcohol consumption creating public nuisance in nearby areas and causing inconvenience to the general public, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has prohibited sale and consumption of liquor and all other kinds of anti social activities in such places.
In an order issued recently, the deputy commissioner also informed that a Special Task Force headed by Extra Assistant Commissioner, Tennystar R Marak, Excise Inspector, Tura Armand Ch Momin and Circle Inspector, Tura Police Station Bitching N Marak has been constituted to ensure and check these anti social activities and other illegal activities in public places in and around Tura town. A direction has also been given to concerned authorities to check all illegal activities and seize illegal selling of liquor and enforce maximum fines against the offenders.
“The violation of this order will be construed as Public Nuisance under section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act and a penalty of Rs. 5000 per person shall be enforced by the Police Administration and in case of repeated offences, additional fines which may extend to Rs. 15, 000 per person,” the order stated.
