NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat along with officials on Friday inspected Nongstoin Market, one of the oldest in the district, with a view to develop it.
On inspection, it was found that the market is in a poor condition with no proper drainage system, footpath and infrastructure.
Byrsat said that the market needs to be revamped with all necessary facilities.
With lack of basic requirements, the market, which is the main source of income for the people of the district, is lagging behind in many ways, Byrsat said.
The MLA along with Urban Department officials has decided to send an estimate to revamp the market.
( Locals throng the market daily for their livelihood. As most of the people run their businesses in the market, it is one of the places that provide employment to the locals, he added.
He also assured that he will take steps to develop Nongstoin market and also to keep it clean and tidy.
He informed that the office of the Syiem of Nongstoin has submitted the proposal on Urban Haat and assured that he will follow up the matter.
