SHILLONG: The arrest of three persons for possession of Yaba tablets has revealed that the smuggling racket has international dimension.
In a joint operation by ANTF, East Khasi Hills and intelligence unit of DG Assam Rifles which began from August 21 night and carried on till early hours of August 22, commercial quantity of Yaba tablets have been seized from possession of three accused, Soilen Hajong (38), Surendra Banai (38) and Rebecca Misao (48s).
As many as 3779 tablets weighing around 385 gms were seized by the police.
The seizure was made at the parking lot of Ganesh Das Pasteur Institute and a case has been registered in Sadar police station under sections 22 (a)/(b) /29 NDPS Act.
“It has come to light that the accused were running a smuggling racket which has international dimension”, East Khasi Hills SP Claudia Lyngwa said.
According to police, Yaba tablets contain amphetamine which is a banned psychotropic substance under NDPS Act. Amphetamine is considered to be worse than heroin as there is no substitution therapy available.
