SHILLONG: A joint team of ANTF East Jaintia Hills, Ladrymbai Outpost and VDP members recovered 10.64 gms heroin from Pamra Mukoi Lara in the district on Friday and arrested three persons while the fourth arrest was also made by the police in an undisclosed area in West Jaintia Hills.

Police suspect that the person who was arrested in West Jaintia Hills on Saturday evening is the main supplier of drugs in Jaintia Hills

The person has been arrested based on the leads of the people who were arrested in East Jaintia Hills on Friday.

Earlier, the three persons who were arrested in East Jaintia Hills, have been identified as  Jop Siangshai,   Admanstone Pyrbot   and Centre Laloo. Jop Siangshai  is a peddler. The three persons have been arrested and booked under 21(b)/29 NDPS Act

Sources from the district police said that drugs abuse scenario has improved in the district in the last couple of months as earlier Ladrymbai and Khliehriat was a like a den.

Now, the district police have also changed its strategy as earlier, the police was going after the drug addicts and then went after the retailers and now the cops are looking for the major suppliers of drugs in the district

On being asked about the route which drug suppliers use for transporting drugs, sources said that the Silchar-Shillong rout was earlier used  for the entry of drugs in Meghalaya but now the suppliers are avoiding these route and instead using the Guwahati-Shillong route.

However, the district police is not taking things lightly and checkings are being conducted on the national highway.
