SHILLONG: With frequent media reports of Congress MLAs planning to join BJP, some legislators are toying with the idea of supporting the NPP-led government to avoid any disunity in the party.
“National government or all-party government is nothing new. To avoid any disunity, there is a thinking why we should not support the present government unconditionally”, a Congress leader said.
BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek had claimed that eight Congress MLAs are ready to join the party.
“We are tired of hearing frequent claims by various parties regarding the move of Congress MLAs and MDCs to leave the party. Even UDP has approached us for a merger but a collective decision should be taken to support the present government”, the Congress leader said.
The claims of BJP regarding the exodus of Congress MLAs have also created distrust among the legislators, the leader said. He added that if the party MLAs join the BJP there are chances that they may even lose the security deposit in the next Assembly polls.
According to the leader, in the interest of the party and the legislators, the CLP can take a decision to support the present government.
