SHILLONG/JOWAI: In a bid to create an error-free electoral roll, the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) for Sohra Civil Sub-Division was launched at the Pdengshnong Community Hall, Sohra on Monday by L Kynjing, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division.
The programme aims at improving the health of Electoral Rolls and enrolment of all eligible citizens during the Special Summary Revision 2020 through verification by the citizens and via authentication collection of electoral information by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) via house-to-house visits.
As per directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), citizens are recommended to utilize the services of Common Service Centres (CSCs) so as to assist them in enrolment, authentication and correction of details and other related services.
M. Lyngwa, Assistant System Engineer, Sohra explained the different ways in which citizens can update and verify their details through the NVSP portal, Voters Helpline mobile application, visiting their nearest CSC or through their respective BLOs. The EVP will help the electors to crosscheck their details registered in the voters’ list.
Meanwhile, the EVP was launched in West Jaintia Hills by Garod L.S.N Dykes, Deputy Commissioner who also inaugurated the Common Service Centre (CSC), in the CSC, Iawmusiang on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Garod said the EVP was launched by the ECI on Sunday and will continue till September 30. A helpline number, 1950, has also been set for voters including people with disabilities.
Others who were present included B. Blah, EAC (Election), Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) R.S Manners, Y. Mawlong, EAC, D.D Syngai, EAC, District Coordinator, CSC M. Myrchaing, BLOs, Representatives of Political Parties and Rangbah Shnongs.
