Leh delegation discusses sixth schedule with KHADC

SHILLONG: A delegation of four persons from Leh, Ladakh met Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) P.N Syiem, executive member in charge of Trade, Paul Lyngdoh and Executive Member in charge of Market, Jambor War on Friday.
Tsering Samphel, a former MLA of Leh and currently a social activist, Dechen Chamgha , president of Christian Association, Leh (Moravian Church), Rinchen Angmo, editor of Reach Ladakh and Deskit Angmo, environmental lawyer met the three MDCs to discuss the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Syiem said the four were seeking knowledge about the Sixth Schedule as they fear that they might be reduced to a minority in their own state.
“They are worried about their land with Ladakh being declared a Union Territory and they want to know about the Sixth Schedule as they want protection of their land and customs,” he said.
He said that they want the people of Ladakh to understand about Sixth Schedule and if there is a need, the MDCs will go to Ladakh.
