Plea for plastic ban in Sohra market

SHILLONG: The MATTI Cooperative Society has urged the Syiem of Hima Sohra, Paiem Freeman Sing Syiem, to ban plastic in Iew Sohra (Sohra market) like in Iewduh (Bara Bazaar), Shillong by Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The cooperative society has sent a letter to the Syiem of Hima Mylliem ruing that plastic has contributed to filth and garbage in various places in Sohra.
As a start to “Clean Sohra Campaign”, the cooperative society will clean Siangkatlot, Saitktung till Dam Um cave (Krem Dam) also known as Mawmluh cave (Krem Mawmluh) on October 2.
The cooperative society said the clean Sohra campaign is to protect Krem Dam Um from getting polluted due to plastic menace as Krem Dam Um has brought reputation to the state for the “Meghalayan Age.”
In this connection, the society has urged the Hima Sohra to send ten volunteers for the campaign.
Again, the cooperative society has urged the Hima Sohra to pay attention to clean environment in Sohra.
