SHILLONG: Capital town’s unique service programme ‘Aahar’—a square meal for Rs 5—will complete a year this Sunday coinciding with the 15th death anniversary of former legislator Ardhendu Chaudhuri.
Governor Tathagata Roy will be the chief guest on the occasion. Run by a Trust which was established in his memory after Chaudhuri died in a helicopter crash on September 22, 2004, Aahar has proved to be a big boon for the poorest of the poor who have for the past year enjoyed one veg meal everyday . It is expected that a cross section of the society will be present on the occasion for remembering his service to the state.
