GUWAHATI: India’s first single-character movie, Strawberry Point, directed by renowned filmmaker Prabal Baruah had its world premiere on day-3 of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, 2019 in Guwahati on Saturday.
Band of Boys’ Karan Oberoi makes his film debut with this home production which he has co-produced with Prabal Baruah. The story is about the pursuit of a criminal lawyer, to find his wife who went missing on the day of their wedding anniversary. Oberoi and Baruah attended the film festival, for the screening of their movie.
The day-3 of the festival kicked off with the much anticipated film quiz competition, Cinemascope.
That was followed by the screening of a series of acclaimed short films: Daaiby MonujBorkotoky, Meal by AbhiroopBasu, Pa.ri.ahby Nikita Kala and Udne Do by Aarti S Bagdi.
The afternoon started with the screening of a documentary Voice of Siang directed by Joor Baruah. Baruah has created waves across the globe with his creative, noticeable work. The elegant Siang that originates in Tibet and flows down through the Adi villages is a battleground for power. Alongside its waters, mountains and valleys, drifts voices – unheard, unwritten and unsung. A series of encounters with the Adis, near the old town of Pasighat, the tale portrays their inspiring resilience and hope.
After which, there was a screening of two short films Amma Meri (Mother) directed by Tarun Jain and Her First Time directed by Divya Unni, from Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films.
Roopa Barua’s Daughters of the Polo God was screened next. It is a beautifully shot and heart-warming narration of young Manipuri women in the state’s polo sport along with the plight of the ponies in the state due to ecological disruptions.The shimmering emerald state of Manipur, India is the birthplace of modern polo with men having played there for several hundred years. Now it’s the turn for the young maidens to charge forward. The filmhas already won 5 awards.
