Tourists commemorate Tagore’s visit

SHILLONG: Tourists from Bangladesh and West Bengal on Friday joined the celebrations marking Rabindranath Tagore’s first visit to Shillong a century ago.
A centenary celebration lamp was illuminated at Brookside Cottage in Rilbong which was also the place where Tagore stayed during his visit.
One hundred conches were also blown during the lighting of the lamp.
Notable personalities who attended the event include Tusar Kanti Bhattacharjee, Streamlet Dkhar (NEHU), Arup Sengupta, members of Sarada Samiti and other organisations.
One hundred lamps were also lit to commemorate the occasion.
People from different localities including children and local artistes also took part in the celebrations.
