HSPDP, UDP extend condolences
SHILLONG: Holy Child Hr. Sec. School, Demthring, Shillong on Wednesday mourned the sudden demise of Archbishop Dominic Jala.
A special prayer service for the departed soul of Archbishop Jala was held in the school assembly ground. A brief history of the life and work of Jala was read out.
The students and staff remembered his contributions to society as human being and as a priest.
Floral tributes, burning of candles and special prayers were held by the sisters, the staff and students.
MPHRC condoles death
The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has expressed its deep sense of shock and sorrow at the untimely demise of Jala.
“As a leading religious scholar, he also committed for his unwa-vering engagement for social justice, protection of the environment and for promoting the culture of human rights through his liturgical competence,” said Dino D.G. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.
The MPHRC further said that he will be remembered as a very friendly and humble person and for his intellectual strength and for his strong and genuine conviction and ability to engage people.
The Catholic community in the state has lost a great religious leader and his legacy of caring for others in which they live will hopefully be emulated by many of us.
“We wish to express our condolences to the members and relatives of the bereaved family and the Shillong Archdiocese,” the council said.
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) met on Tuesday to expressed condolence on the sudden demise of Archbishop Dominic Jala on October 10 in California, USA.
In a statement issued here they said that the sudden demise of Jala is a loss to the state and the country as a whole. The party extends its condolence to the bereaved family.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) also mourned the demise of Jala and said that his passing away will leave a void in the lives of many especially the family members. The UDP also extends its condolence to the grieving family members and loved ones.
