Guv harps on trade fairs for growth

Promotion, publicity of MSME unit products on anvil

SHILLONG: In view of providing momentum to publicity and marketing of the products and services of MSME units of the Northeastern region, the Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy inaugurated the 11th edition of the East Himalayan Trade Fair (EHTF) 2019 at SRGT Parking Area, Polo Ground here on Wednesday.
In his address, Roy said that such trade fairs play a crucial role for the growth of the Northeastern region, adding that this is in line with the Act East Policy of Government of India which recognises the importance of the North East as the gateway to the East.
It may be mentioned that the trade fair, thematised on ‘MSME-An Engine for NER Growth’, is being organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), a Government of India enterprise in collaboration with Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya and with support from the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Ministry of Justice and Ministry of AYUSH, Government of Assam.
Altogether 77 MSME units from the entire Northeastern region displayed their wide range of products comprising of horticulture, household goods, food items, textiles, handicraft, products of rural artisans and SHGs, SME’s product and services, among others.
The trade fair will continue till October 22 and will be open for public from 11 am to 7 pm daily.
