Presbyterian Church of India mourns Jala’s death

SHILLONG: The Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) has expressed its shock and stated that it was saddened after hearing about the untimely demise of Most Rev. Dominic Jala, Archbishop of Shillong who died in a car accident in California, USA.
In a statement issued here, senior administrative secretary, PCI, GS Lyttan said, “Archbishop Jala was a good friend and a great leader of the Christian community in North East India.”
“With his passing away, the Church in India and the North East in particular has lost a servant of God. He worked tirelessly for the growth of the Christian community and of the pluralistic society of the state and the country,” he said.
Lyttan also sent his condolence to the family members of the late Archbishop including the Catholic Church on behalf of the PCI.
Meanwhile, during a meeting held on Wednesday, the Church Committee of the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church conveyed its deepest condolences to the Archdiocese of Shillong and prayed to the almighty to grant them solace and strength to bear the loss.
The Church Committee also resolved that as a mark of respect to the departed soul, all schools run by the church shall remain closed on the day of the funeral.
