Students blame Dean for delay

SHILLONG: The students of NEHU wrote an open letter to the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) to finalise the date of election to be within October as the students see no reason to prolong the matter.
The students said the office of the DSW should provide them with an adequate reply regarding the delay of elections.
In the letter, the students criticised the office of DSW for not working towards ensuring justice and contribute to the democratic functioning of the University.
The students stated that the incident that took place in the brief span of a few weeks is a matter of concern with the administration falling prey to the petty demands of external forces and the University taking action only after acts of violence. The students alleged signs of foul play on the intimidation of a candidate by outside forces.
The students referred to the October 9 incident and the election which was scheduled to be held on October 15.
The students asserted that the administration has failed to ensure the safety of the students and the DSW must admit such a charge.
The students also pointed to the arbitrary withholding of the democratic rights of the students by the election machinery.
“In spite of making multiple queries on the matter, there has been no response”, they said adding by postponing the elections, the dean apparently complied with the demands of miscreants”, the students said.
The students asked the Dean not to nominate any candidates to various posts as they are capable enough to vote for their own representatives who have undergone the process of campaigns and scrutiny.
The NEHU students said that after the date of election is finalised, the administration should conduct the election.
