JOWAI: In order to facilitate a better management of traffic as well as prevent any inconvenience to the public who will attend the NH-7 Bacardi event and those who pass through the area, police have made traffic arrangements. Designated parking lots are allotted for the public in general who attend the event as well as for the VIPs.
For the public who attend the event, there are three allotted parking lots, Parking- 1, 2 and 3, where they can park their vehicles located adjacent to the Highwinds Dhaba on the Jowai bypass which is at a distance of about 200 meters from the Box Office at the main entrance including a separate area for two wheelers. In order to prevent traffic snarl and congestion at the road around the main entrance, vehicles coming from Shillong will not be allowed to embark or disembark their passengers at the main entrance but will proceed ahead towards Parking 1, 2 & 3. All visitors who attend the event after disembarking from the vehicle at the designated parking lots will proceed on foot to the venue.
Besides the 3 designated parking spaces allotted for the public who attend the event, police also have a reserved parking space nearby in case the parking 1, 2 & 3 are full.
Parking spaces for VIPs: Only VIP vehicles will be allowed to enter the venue. There are two entry points to the venue. One is at the box office which is the main entrance, and the other one is at the junction towards the BDO’s office. A designated parking space for VIPs is allotted at a space adjacent to the venue.
No vehicle will be allowed to park anywhere on the road sides near the box office or anywhere that might cause an obstruction to traffic flow, except at these designated parking spaces. Police said anyone who violates these traffic arrangements will have to pay fine accordingly. Police also said that no vehicle coming for the event will be allowed to disembark along the road in front of the main entrance, as that would cause traffic congestion and inconvenience since there will be many visitors who will come to attend the event.
In order to ensure that the traffic rules are fully implemented, police are deploying enough traffic personnel at all a critical points on the road as well as at the parking lots.
Police booths inside as well outside the premises have also been set up in order to monitor the situation.
All vehicles that will be parking at the parking spaces will display on their wind screen the name of the driver of the vehicle as well as the mobile number in order that the driver can be required to come immediately in case the vehicle obstructs other vehicles at the parking spaces.
The owners/drivers of all vehicles will ensure that stickers on plain paper displaying the name of the driver as well his mobile number are pasted on the wind screen of the vehicle.
Police will also prevent haphazard parking of vehicles.
“In case any vehicle is left abandoned on any space which is not allowed for parking, such vehicle will be removed by us by means of our recovery trucks which are put on standby around the area”, said a statement by the police.
In case a vehicle is being towed for haphazard parking, the owner of the vehicle will have to pay the towing charges as well as the fines, the police said, adding that no over speeding will be allowed around the area.
