Korea partner country for Cherry Blossom fest

K-Pop concert, Korean Taekwondo part of event

SHILLONG: The 4th India International Cherry Blossom Festival 2019, Shillong, will celebrate the unique autumn flowering of Himalayan Cherry Blossoms with several cultural events here from November 13 to 16 with Republic of Korea as partner country. 
Fashion shows, rock concerts, beauty pageant and an amateur golf tournament will feature in the festival.
Alongside, there will be stalls showcasing the best of the region’s food, wine and crafts. 
The festival is being organised at Polo 5th Ground and the picturesque Ward’s Lake by the Forest and Environment Department, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
This International Year of Indigenous Languages also brings in the Republic of Korea as a partner country and there will be several K-events including a K-Pop concert and Korean Taekwondo. Besides, there will also be Korean cuisine and arts stalls and exhibits on opportunities in education in South Korea in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre India.
The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the Republic of Korea delegation will be led by Shin Bong-Kil, Ambassador to India.
A key event of the festival will be a summit between the Republic of Korea and the Government of Meghalaya on issues of environmental reclamation and waste to wealth, and several MoUs are expected to be inked during the summit.
LG Electronics Inc, a South Korea-headquartered multinational electronics company, has also stepped in as a major sponsor.

Nemo Gurung at Travenjo.com, Lumphyrnai, said has that there are many Shillong Tour Packages that often travel companies or agencies offer but this festival will be a unique experience for travellers.
Except for Wards Lake and Polo 5th Ground, the programme will also be held at State Central Library; Fire Brigade Ground, Lower Moti Nagar; Golf Course and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Polo.
