India C thrash India A to enter Deodhar Trophy final
Ranchi: Openers Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal smashed spectacular hundreds before Jalaj Saxena took a career-best seven-wicket haul, steering India C into the final of the Deodhar Trophy with a massive 232-run win over India A, here on Friday. India C skipper Gill (143 off 142) and Test opener Agarwal (120 off 111) shared a 226-run stand before a special knock from Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out off 29) propelled the team to 366 for three in 50 overs. India A were never in the chase and off-spinner Saxena (7/41) ran through their batting line-up with a memorable spell. It was India A’s second successive defeat in as many days, knocking them out of the tournament. India C and India B, who beat India A on Thursday, will play the final here on Monday. (PTI)


Bengal to compete at China Int’l Dragon Boat Race
Kolkata: A fifteen-member team from city based Bengal Water Sports (BWS) led by veteran oarsman Shakil Ahmed left here to take part at the 2019 China International Dragon Boat Race to be held at Dian Lake in Kunming, China, during November 1-3. Other members of the team are Rajarshi Giri, Khusi Agarwal, Gautam Bairagi, Afridi Ali, Karan Agarwal, Swastika Basu, Zhuoma Jinan, Ms Ruqayia Swaleha, Gautam Bairagi, Abhoy Agarwal, Siladitya Mondal, Vibhor Kejriwal (all paddlers), Yashvi Chaudhari (drummer) and Ishika Das (helmperson). Speaking before the departure, Shakil, who is also the coach of the team, informed that they had practiced on the BWS’ own Dragon Boat at the Eco Park water body in New Town for a number of days. The team also include five paddlers who have earlier represented Indian team at the International Dragon Boat Race Championship held in Thailand during August last where it finished at 26th position out of total 60 countries. WWE star to visit India

New Delhi: WWE star Charlotte Flair is set to return to India after four years and will meet Special Olympics athletes during her three-day visit from November 14. Charlotte will visit Mumbai (Nov 14-15) and Bengaluru (Nov 16) to meet fans in the two cities. She will meet Special Olympics athletes on the occasion of Children’s day in Mumbai and will also make an appearance at ComicCon India. Daughter of legendary WWE superstar Ric Flair, Charlotte is a second generation professional wrestler currently drafted under the RAW brand. After her debut on RAW, she became the first athlete to win the RAW Women’s Championship. (PTI)


McGregor convicted of assault
DUBLIN: Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor was convicted on Friday of assault for punching a man who refused a shot of whiskey from him in a Dublin pub in April and was fined 1,000 euros (USD 1,117). The 31-year-old twice Ultimate Fighting Championship title-holder, offered a guilty plea and apologised to his victim in Dublin’s District Court. “What I did was very wrong. I would like to apologise again to the injured party… and assure you that nothing of this nature will happen again,” said McGregor, dressed in a navy suit and tie.McGregor’s solicitor Michael Staines asked the court to give McGregor “one last chance” and said a criminal conviction could lead to a refusal of a visa to the United States and create “very severe difficulties” for his career.
